Tao Of Backup Wailing Wall Story

In an emergency you'l need the right equipment to read the backups.

I backed up my home PC to an internal tape drive fairly regularly and when the PC failed with an elecrical fault the tape drive was also unusable. I preserved the data by transplanting the HD (still working) into another machine.

Reliability is gained by redundancy, diversity and SEGREGATION so I've never since used an internal tape drive.

Imagine if the HD had also been unusable and the tape drive had been old and hard to replace. Or if your offsite backup collection doesn't include the s/s to read your backups.
